If I had a pair of infrared glasses…
Glasses that allowed me to see -
Not things, not facts, but emotions…
What would I do?
I would put them over my eyes, and see
The world around me
In patches of color.
Mostly red.
Red, for anger.
A conversation between two people:
Red;
No words, just red.
An argument of lovers:
No stories, no details; only red.
A gathering of people:
I cannot read their signs, their hats, their flags,
Or their T-shirts;
All I see is red.
I want to be a patch of blue
In this red, red world.
I want to look into another person’s eyes,
And see - not their story, but their feelings.
I want to feel their hearts beating in their chests, their faces wrinkled and their hands shivering -
Much the same as mine.
I want to feel their warmth, and if-need-be, even their cold: So be it.
I want to begin with something real.
It’s so hard to see these days,
And I am so confused.
I don’t know what to say anymore.
But I know what a real hug feels like.
