The Age of Catharsis

Originally published on Levona.org, November 4, 2019

I think that one of the most characteristic things that many of us would say about this world we’re living in is that it forces us to hold a lot of crap in. There is so much I would love to scream about, to sing about, to play about, to talk about… and it’s just not really happening. Is it? I feel like 90% of the time, I need to make a face and put on a show, just to make it through the day. And I’m so sick of that. Aren’t we all? When is it all going to start pouring out?

I look around, though, and it feels like things are happening: Sexual misconduct, possibly the most suppressed of all the human experiences, is finally being talked about (at least it's beginning to happen). Corruption is coming to a point where it can’t be ignored anymore. Things are coming up. I have to say, honestly, that I’m thrilled about all this.

My only question is: How do we do this right? How do we talk about all this crap, how do we bring it to the surface, without hurting each other?
